Job Description

Reports to: Vice President, Programs & Learning

Position Summary

The Manager of Programs & Learning serves a key role in implementing educational programs and professional development services. This position is part of an entrepreneurial and collaborative team responsible for developing a comprehensive package of member programs each year that reflects and enhances Philanthropy Ohio’s strategic plan. The Manager of Programs & Learning is self-directed, highly organized and solution-focused, with a passion for Philanthropy Ohio’s mission and a commitment to member service. This is a full-time exempt position based in the Columbus area and primarily works remotely. Occasional travel within the state of Ohio to lead and attend programming is anticipated.

Program Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of our Philanthropy Forward annual conference. Serve as key partner in designing and delivering annual conference by collecting and organizing requests for proposals, coordinating registration through Salesforce, handling speaker communication and scheduling, managing on-site logistics and providing critical day-of support for virtual or in-person conference experiences.
  • Manage and coordinate in-person and virtual learning opportunities on a variety of philanthropic and professional development topics.
  • Handle all attendee-facing program logistics, including crafting and reviewing program announcements, sending communications and coordinating with speakers. Post-event responsibilities include initiating and collecting program evaluations and sending follow-up communications and resources as needed.
  • Coordinate all internal program logistics, including updating internal tracking tools and databases, preparing presentation slides, managing back-end technology and logistics for all Philanthropy Ohio virtual meetings and programming, setting up Zoom or other platform configurations and serving as the meeting host to manage the program implementation, such as breakout rooms and polling.
  • Manage and support peer and affinity group engagement with members.
  • Collaborate with internal workgroups to produce programming calendars and communications.
  • Support collaborative programming between Philanthropy Ohio and peer organizations.
  • Continuously identify and implement technological solutions to leverage adult learning and community building strategies through our professional development programs.  

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage set of constituent relationship management (CRM) visits and calls on an annual basis.
  • Provide scheduling support for Vice President, Programs & Learning, including for CRM calls and visits.
  • Take ownership of departmental reporting processes, including updating Salesforce and internal tracking documents to inform programming work and committee reporting.
  • Secure event locations and provide on-site support for in-person Philanthropy Ohio events, including to arrange catering and convey room set-up and audio/visual needs with host venues.
  • Create and maintain space and speaker event agreements and execution.
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of program announcements and other promotional materials when necessary.
  • Create staff run-of-show and manage on-site audio-visual requirements for Philanthropy Forward conference.
  • Develop documents and meeting materials (e.g. agendas, name tags/rosters, supplemental resources) to facilitate the successful implementation of programming.
  • Serve as key administrative liaison for Member Services committee and other groups as assigned,  including managing invitations, preparing materials and reports and transcribing committee minutes.
  • Participate in the development of the annual programs & learning work plan and budget.
  • Manage reporting for all aspects of departmental deliverables and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Preferred Qualifications

The Manager of Programs & Learning is a highly motivated person who possesses the following experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent event and process management expertise.
  • Experience in using the latest technology and online learning tools to effectively host and implement programming in a virtual context with attention to inclusivity.
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, administrative, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortability with discussing and leading in complex issue areas, including but not limited to racial equity, addressing power imbalances and systems change.
  • Experience with implementing professional development programs both in-person and virtually.
  • Understanding of membership organizations and volunteer and team management.
  • Strong customer service orientation and technological competence.
  • Ability to balance role of being part of a team and working independently.
  • Strong work ethic and ability/willingness to travel, primarily within Ohio.
  • Equivalent experience in a related field or a four-year college degree.

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000. In addition, Philanthropy Ohio offers 15 days paid vacation, 14 paid holidays, sick leave, retirement benefits, parking, medical, dental, vision, parental leave, and disability and life insurance coverage. The Manager will benefit from the ability to work remotely within central Ohio, with an expectation of in-person engagement with members and travel throughout Ohio.
