As a community foundation, we help individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits achieve their philanthropic goals; through our grantmaking, we assist nonprofits to achieve their mission; and we help to identify the most pressing needs in our community and bring the individuals and organizations together to address them.

Job Description

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Competitive Grantmaking
    • Works with grant seekers to understand the Foundation’s grant application process 
    • Review and analyze proposals according to guidelines
    • Organize and conduct site visits
    • Coordinate evaluation process for grants and prepare comments regarding the proposal
    • Coordinate evaluation process for grants, produce reports and thorough documentation for grants, and conduct research when necessary for the Foundation’s Distribution Committee
    • Assists in facilitating meetings of the Distribution Committee
    • Communicate grant decisions to nonprofits and ensure the required follow up process is followed 
    • Monitor the performance of competitive grants to support grantee partner success
  • Research and Data. Lead and participate in learning about organizations’ needs, vision, and goals and share out that information regularly in writing, meetings, presentations, and site visits with Foundation leadership
  • Sharing of Community Knowledge. As appropriate, convene grantees and others in the field to advance networking and learning opportunities for the Foundation and its partners such as donors, potential donors and the business community.
  • Community Initiatives. Support the President/CEO in the development of community-wide opportunities and strategies for partnerships  
    • Build positive relationships within the community 
    • Work with a variety of constituents in a manner that promotes trust 
    • Contribute to efforts to match donor interests to critical community needs 
    • Represent the Foundation at meetings and community events 
  • Evaluation of Programs. Participate in the ongoing refinement of the Foundation’s grant application process through discussions with grantees and other Foundation staff. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with preference given to a nonprofit related field of study
  • Knowledge of the Troy community and its nonprofits preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, listening skills, and judgment in communicating within a variety of settings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with online grants management systems, Foundant, preferred
  • Experience in using digital tools such as Canva to create engaging social media and print content
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills including a demonstration of managing various types of projects successfully
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of constituents and respect varying perspectives and ideas
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work priorities
